PRAYING FOR JUSTICE IN SASKATCHEWAN and RELIGIONS

Praying for justice

By Marnie Deighton, The StarPhoenix, May 25, 2010

Re: Court hears same-sex sides (SP, May 14) The congregation of Grosvenor Park United Church wants to make it clear that not all religions share the view of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada or of other religions that oppose gay marriage and homosexuality.

Our congregation along with other United church congregations in Saskatoon and across the province not only support marrying gay couples in church, but have declared ourselves to be affirming ministries. That is, we are openly welcoming of gay, lesbian, transgendered and intersex individuals into our congregations.

We pray that the Appeal Court justices not only will respect the intent of Saskatchewan and Canadian law, but that they unequivocally extend the freedom, dignity, respect and justice to gays and lesbians, and any other group caught by the broad sweep of the changes proposed by the government.
