OSCAR winner Sean Penn comments on gay rights

SEAN PENN won LEADING ACTOR at the 81st Academy Awards, February 22/09 for his role in MILK, a movie about Harvey Milk, a real life gay rights icon and politician from California who was assassinated.

In his acceptance speech he said: "...for those who saw the signs of hatred as our cars drove in tonight. I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect
and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grand children's eyes if they continue that way of support.

We've got to have equal rights for everyone."
This was followed by lour applause at the Academy Awards.
